Fitting the pieces together - Course Reflections

As I was starting the course named ‘Learning Theories and Instruction’ I declared that I was learning through different methods depending on the nature of the program, environment or nature of the instructor. I have come to understand the true definition of the way I have been learning. As other many people do, I am a person who likes very much to learn through practical fields. In that essence I cannot say that I am constructivist, behaviorist or connectivist, but the learning theory applied in my learning may depend on what I want to learn at that time. It is important for a person to understand his or her learning style because he or she will be able to take several certain steps to adjust the materials you need.  Overall, I can say that, I depend on multiple theories on my learning. A good thing I have come to know is the difference between learning styles, learning strategies and learning theories. They are definitely confusing terms but at the end we have come to realize that the learning styles whether kinesthetic, auditory or visual, they all do not exist.

I have been a technology dependent learner for such a long time now. Technology has almost done everything for me. I use my personal computer to access my courses and complete all the assignments online. Furthermore, I use technology as a means of acquiring materials from different web resources for the justification of my writings. As a learner and Instructional designer as well, technology has been a critical aspect to work with in all the time. The learning contents I design they do rely on technology as well. When studying this course, technology has connected me with colleagues and instructor where we get the chance to share different experiences in discussion forums and student lounges. The learning theory named connectivism is highly technology facilitated that most of us use to get different learning resources from other connected sources.

By understanding the learning theories, as an Instructional designer, I have been in a good position of designing instructions that effectively address specific goal for specific people. Learning theories will serve as research and organizing frameworks in programs I design. They will further help me as a designer to categorize my audience as children or adult learner while aligning my contents with best learning activities.

Finally, I would like to dedicate my sincere thanks to Dr. Artino and all my colleagues from Walden University who have been helpful to me during this course. I have been provided with different ideas, different thoughts and different challenges and experiences that have made me better than the way I was before.

Instructional Design is all about technology

As instructional designers we need to be aware of different learning and instructional technologies used popularly today. A good understanding of these technologies will enable an Instructional Designer to design the learning content that hits the instructional goals effectively.
